Appearance: Deep warm amber.
Nose: Coffee, chocolate, a hint of pepper and cloves. Sweet, honeyed, but with the vegetal touch of sugarcane.
Palate: Initially peppery and slightly musty, with notes of cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon. Liquorice, and aromatic herbs. Rich and intense, full bodied, it then grows increasingly sweeter with chestnut and acacia honey. Raisins, dried figs, dates.
Finish: Sweet, mouthcoating, with notes of cola and brown sugar.
Comment: A good balance of spice and sweetness, for a rum which has an inherent darkness and big aromatic character backed by a honeyed body.Suggested Match: Valrhona Tanariva 33%, a delicate milk chocolate from Madagascar with a buttery mouthfeel suited to the creamy character of this rum.
